Main Street is a comprehensive, incremental approach to revitalizing and regenerating the downtown within the context of historic preservation. Using local resources and initiative, Main Street helps communities by building on their unique assets and developing their own strategies to stimulate long-term growth and pride in the traditional community center – downtown.
Since being selected a Florida Main Street City in 1990, Haines City Main Street and the community of Haines City are rediscovering the importance of downtown’s image and spirit: downtown can affect industrial recruitment, attract visitors, and serve as a choice area for reinvestment and economic development.
Haines City Main Street’s purpose is the revitalization of downtown by implementing the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s Main Street Four Point Approach: Organization, Promotion, Design, and Economic Restructuring. Nationally, there are over 2,200 Main Street organizations which are collectively transforming traditional downtown districts.

Organization Committee: Pull everyone together!
Haines City Main Street, through its paid Executive Director, Board of Directors, committees, and volunteers, provides the means for interaction between public and private sector interests in developing, coordinating, and implementing plans and projects affecting the downtown.
Promotion Committee: Let the show begin!
Through all available means – media, logo display, activities, and events – Haines City Main Street promotes downtown as a place to shop, work, socialize, and enjoy. The primary function of the Promotion Committee is the development, marketing, and implementation of events promoting downtown.
Design Committee: Pay attention to the details!
Enhancement of downtown’s appearance is an objective of the program. The Haines City Main Street Design Committee provides assistance for building design, façade renovation and restoration, signage, public improvements, and streetscape.
Economic Restructuring Committee: Let’s keep growing!
The final step in revitalizing downtown Haines City is to improve the economic appeal. This is accomplished by retaining and strengthening existing businesses, recruiting desired new businesses and encouraging redevelopment. Downtown must recognize that its strength comes from not just retailing, but a variety of economic functions, including professional, recreational, governmental and residential.
